New England Championship Wrestling returns to Teamworks Indoor Sports, 732 Lees River Avenue, Somerset, MA on Saturday night, May 1 with a 7 PM bell time for the 7th Annual IRON 8 Championship.

The IRON 8 is an NECW tradition and one of the area’s premiere wrestling events of the year. Billed as “the ultimate test of skill, stamina and strategy,” the IRON 8 is an event like no other.  8 men are selected by the NECW Championship Committee from both inside and outside the NECW ranks. They are then paired into 4 one on one match-ups. The four winners of the opening round bouts then go on to face each other the same night in a four way, 45 minute iron man match. The man who scores the most pins or submissions in the 45 minute period is the winner and the 2009 IRON 8 Champion.

In order to win the event, a wrestler must be capable of wrestling for an hour – first against a top flight competitor on a one on one basis, then against 3 other opponents in an all out battle for athletic supremacy.

This year’s field includes 2 former WWE stars.  The eight men announced for this year’s IRON 8 are: former NECW Television Champion, Handsome Johnny, former NECW Triple Crown Champion and a 4 time NECW Tag Team Champion, D.C. Dillinger, “Sensational” Scott Levesque, “The Natural” Scott Osbourne, former WWE & ECW Original star, Little Guido, NECW standout and former IWA Puerto Rico Light Heavyweight Champion, Ryan Bisbal, former WWE & ECW Original Star, Tony Mamaluke and protégé of WWE Hall of Famer, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Dickie Rodz.

The first round pairing have been drawn and are as follows:

Handsome Johnny draws his protégé, “Sensational” Scott Levesque

D.C. Dillinger faces “The Natural” Scott Osbourne

Former tag team parters face off as WWE & ECW Original star, Little Guido takes on Tony Mamluke

Ryan Bisbal squares off against Dickie Rodz

Winners face off in the main event, a 4 way, 45 minute Iron man match – most pinfalls or submissions in 45 minutes wins the match and is declared this year’s IRON 8 Champion.

In addition to the tournament, there will be a special “Champion’s Challenge match pitting NECW Triple Crown Champion, “The Real Deal” Brandon Locke, managed by “The Rock God” Brett Adams,  against current NECW Television Champion, “The Heat” Kris Pyro.  Only the Triple Crown will be on the line, as Pyro tries to cap an incredible year in NECW by taking the promotion’s top prize.
