Two Championships Change Hands as NECW Comes To Malden, MA for RISE

New NECW Champion Bobby Fish

A great enthusiastic crowd welcomed New England Championship Wrestling to its new home at the Irish American Club in Malden MA on Sunday, October 23rd for RISE.

The show kicked off with a live introduction by Sheldon Goldberg and Al Basler, host of NECW’s Sonic Boom podcast, reviewing the card.

In the opening bout, “The Rising Son” Taka Sazuki defeated Julian Starr.

These two went at it fast and furious. Both men pushed the limits of speed and technique in the ring. The ending came when Taka Sazuki caught Julian Starr buy surprise with a buzzsaw kick, which led to a win for the up and coming Japanese sensation.

Adrenalize (Chris Neil & Nick Farenheight) made their way to the ring for their NECW Tag Team title shot. But it was not to be. Through a side door rushed The Dynasty, DC Dillinger & Brian Fury, with manager Sean Gorman in tow. The Dynasty proceeded to destroy the young tag team, ending it with sickening tandem double body slams on the hard floors of the Irish American Club. Officials rushed to the aid of Adrenalize, while The Dynasty entered the ring. The Dynasty proceeded to insult the fans in attendance, while stating that they were not invited to the show. They were there to issue a challenge to NECW Tag Team Champions Da Hoodz (Davey Cash & “The Heat” Kris Pyro). Da Hoodz made their way to the ring to the delight of the fans and proceeded to let The Dynasty know that they would gladly fight them right now. Sean Gorman, ever the businessman, had Davey Cash reiterate that this would be a tag team title match. Davey assured the crowd and The Dynasty that he is Kris Pyro are fighting champions.  They promised the fans in malden that they were defending the titles and the belts would be on the line.

The Dynasty (DC Dillinger & Brian Fury) defeated Da Hoodz for the NECW Tag Team Championship

This match was exciting from the start, as Da Hoodz showed The Dynasty exactly why they were the champions. Using speed and superb continuity, they kept Dillinger & Fury off balance with stunning tandem attacks. The ending came as Da Hoodz were setting up DC Dillinger for the Hoodstomp finisher. While Sean Gorman distracted the referee, Brian Fury sent Kris Pyro crashing from the top rope to the floor, A concerned Davey Cash turned to check on his partner and when he turned back around DC Dillinger lifted him up for The Last Stop and sent him crashing to the canvas for the three count and the victory. Dillinger & Fury celebrated as new champions while Sean Gorman proved once again to be a top level mastermind.

First half of the double main event was next.

Matt Taven & Doug Williams went to a 20 minute time limit draw

On his way to the ring, Doug Williams acknowledged to the crowd how happy he was to be back home in NECW. He acknowledged that he is here to show the world that Doug Williams is still one of the very best. Taven and Williams fought one of the toughest battles ever seen inside an NECW ring. The fans at times were torn as to who to cheer for, splitting between Williams and the younger Taven. Williams used a lot of European style offense, really brutalizing Matt Taven. Taven kept coming and showed a lot of guts. As time went on Matt Taven seemed to become more and more alive, showing more and more fire. Williams caught Taven with a very surprising diving European uppercut, signaled for his signature Chaos Theory Suplex, but as he rounded into the finishing German Suplex, Taven surprised Williams with a rolling cradle, just as the ref was going down to count 3 for Taven, the time limit expired. The fans started an immediate chant for “5 More Minutes”. Doug Williams grabbed the microphone and stated that he was not doing 5 more minutes, because he felt Taven deserved more than that. Taven deserved a fresh Doug Williams with more time to show fans what pro wrestling is all about and that anything else would be an insult to Taven’s talent. Taven accepted the challenge and the two shook hands which drew a standing ovation from the crowd in Malden.

Sean Burke defeated Elia Markropolis

Elia came out to a very loud chorus of boo’s. The Ambiguous Assassin was on his game when it came to getting on the fans nerves. Elia was all smiles until Sean Burke came through the curtain. Burke stormed the ring and the match began. Elia tried playing mind games, but the sheer aggression and power of Burke was too much in the end. Burke took a kiss from Elia, which caused Burke to snap and deliver a devastating sitout slam to secure the victory.

World Women’s Wrestling Feature Match: Mercedes defeated Mistress Belmont

These two women tore into each other with vengeance. Belmont tried using her unpredictable style, while Mercedes used speed and striking ability to keep Belmont, a former WWW Champion, off balance. Mercedes got the victory, but physically she paid for it.

“The Infamous” Bobby Fish defeated Brandon Locke to become 22nd NECW Heavyweight Champion

This match was a true test of wills and a classic from bell to bell. Fans greeted both competitors with standing ovations upon entering the ringside area. Fish and Locke stared at each other intently as introductions were made. Once the bell rang, these two went at it with unmatched intensity. This match saw everything, aerial assaults from Fish, punishing power moves from Locke and a great “can you top this” technical battle, even trading submissions. This was a battle of two men over the most prestigious prize in all of New England wrestling.  After a long back and forth battle of counters and kickouts, “The Infamous One” hit a Saito Suplex, followed by a jumping spinning hook kick to the head, then covered Locke for the three count and the championship. The fans in Malden once again rose to their feet in appreciation of both men.
